German Shepherds or GSDs are one of my most favorite dog breeds. While I love all dogs in general, German Shepherds steal my heart and not because they are a majestic and intelligent breed, and I adore their loyalty and courage but because It’s also the first dog I got on my own so that you can understand my partiality.
Shadow has been a great part of my life over the years, and it has overshadowed other insignificant details of my rather dull and boring routine.
Having a dog of my own has been a life to change the experience for me and having a German Shepherd for one has been fantastic. Getting a German Shepherd is not an easy task there are many minute details that one has to look into before buying or adopting one.

Their temperament or personalities vary from one another, and their behavior difference is a lot like humans you simply can’t predict their behaviour, it’s same with other breeds too. Every dog has a different personality, and you can’t be sure that if their birth parents are calm and, quite the puppies are going to inherit the same.
The temperament of female German Shepherd differs from the males and therefore different technique is applied for training German Shepherds of different temperament.
In my case adoption was a fun time for me. Shadow’s parents came from a line of well-bred service dogs and unlike his other brothers, he was totally impossible. He was the most curious of them and loved to take a bite out of anything and everything. He was the last pup to be adopted, and I guess the first one to be trained.

An owner trains a dog for respect, loyalty and obedience so that their dog accidentally don’t hurt themselves in this big and fast world where everything moves in a blur, you don’t train a dog because you want a dog who moves, sits or does tricks on you command.

Despite being known as a one man’s dog, German Shepherds are loyal to their families too.
They are extremely protective of their families and in no case they would tolerate any kind of misbehaviour, trust me I have experience, my beloved dog won’t let a stranger near me if I suddenly stiffen on an evening walk or if by chance I faint he would bark constantly or run off to get help that’s because he understands my body language.
This takes months of training and not every dog would follow it in the same way even if it’s a German Shepherd so don’t be disappointed.

TIP: Fix a daily routine of taking it to its bed, food and water bowl, toys, potty area, etc. Moreover, be patient while doing so because it would take time for your pup to grasp everything because it’s still a pup but eventually it would start recognizing the patterns and the usual places where its things are kept.

So start gently handling your pup from the start to make it comfortable around you and the vet.
